Smudging is a Native American cleansing process to purify oneself, an object, or a space spiritually by burning herbs. Sometimes people use feather fans to fan the smoke from the herbs.
I create smudge fans to connect to nature, and find the process of creating them calming and spiritual. When creating, I let Spirit guide me, or, I have worked with clients’ Spirit Guides to create customized smudging fans. I often use peacock feathers, because to me it represents the third eye. After I create a smudge fan I burn sage to cleanse its energy, then burn sweetgrass to infuse it with abundance for the future owner. For good measure, I also apply Reiki to the fans to seal the energy that has been put into them.
